Your School Your Business

The latest Young Enterprise programme Your School Your Business was launched last month. YSYB was piloted at Blurton Business & Enterprise College in Stoke on Trent.

YSYB is a hands-on transition activity for students starting secondary school; to introduce their new school as a business organisation and is designed to encourage students to appreciate their current and future role within it.

150 students took part, on their second day at secondary school; they were joined by many YEWM staff and Young Ambassadors. The day was an opportunity not only to get to know their new school but also to get to know each other.

As part of the programme, students have to come up with ways to solve important problems within the school: Working in teams to think of a name, slogan and logo for their solution, before presenting their ideas to a panel of judges. On the day, pupils came up with innovative ways to address every day school issues, including mobile phone use, litter, and bullying.

YSYB is a great way for the students to develop teamwork, communication skills, creativity and of course presentation skills.
