Young Enterprise Programmes

Young Enterprise offers a range of programmes for young people from 4 years of age through to 25+. The programmes are all based on the principle of learning by doing and bring volunteers from business into the classroom or university to work with the teachers and students. Each programme is supported with training for teachers and volunteers, and comprehensive materials for teachers, students and volunteers.

Primary Programme 4 to 11 A variety of hands on activities enable children to understand the relevance of their education to the workplace. The six modules are Ourselves, Our Families, Our Community, Our City, Our Nation and Our World. Whole Day (5 hrs). Over 5 weeks

Enterprise in Action 12 to 15 Business volunteers challenge students to identify and develop attitudes and capabilities for entrepreneurship. The students design, plan, build and promote their prototype product using an internet-based simulated business scenario. 2 days (10 hrs) Over 7 weeks

Personal Economics 12 to 15 This comprises six sessions focussing on personal finance: Get a Life, Get a Job, Get Banking, Get Spending, Get Ahead and Get Going. Students build their self-esteem, increase their financial capability and prepare for the world of work Whole Day (6 hrs) Over 6 weeks

Learn to Earn 13 to 15 Gives students an activity-based introduction into relationship between learning and the attainment of personal goals. Students explore the concepts of success, independence and employment and come to understand the relevance of learning and education to their future Whole Day (6 hrs) Over 6 weeks

Project Business 14 to 15 Designed to give students a practical activity-based insight into economic and business life, illustrating how a business interacts with its investors, customers, employees and society as a whole. Often features a site visit, usually hosted by the volunteer Business Partner. Whole Day (6 hrs) Over 6 weeks

Team Programme 15 to 19+ Team programme offers young people, who experience difficulties with learning, practical experience of running their own company, supported by their teacher and volunteer business advisors. Timing and delivery are tailored through a flexible framework of vocational learning and key skills acquisition. Students gain increased confidence, self esteem, improved communication, work and social skills. 30+ weeks and can be run over 2 academic years. An OCR qualification is offered through this programme.
Team Programme
Company Programme 15 to 19 Students set up and run their own company over one academic year. They elect a board of directors, raise share capital and market and finance a product or service. At the end of the year they liquidate the company and present a report and accounts. Company programme is our flagship and offers students the opportunity to compete in a business competition at local, regional, national and european level. 30+ weeks. An OCR qualification is offered through this programme.

Entrepreneurship Masterclass 15 to 19 A one-day seminar designed to encourage students to think about business start up as a viable career option, to identify the key entrepreneurial skills required and to grasp the practicalities of starting their own business eg who to approach for help and advice. Half day <4 hrs. Whole day >4 hrs.

Graduate Programme 19 to 24+ Offers students in higher education the opportunity to learn from setting up and running their own company. It enables sudents to develop attitudes and skills necessary for personal success, lifelong learning and employability. It also helps them to gain an understanding of the potential of SMEs as future employers and to consider self employment and business creation as possible future career options. 30+ weeks
